About This Project

The Unconscious Truth is an award-winning short film,written and produced by Left Brain Creative for the Texas Young Lawyers Association. Based on actual events involving the tragic death of 17-year old Shelby Lyn Allen, was filmed on location in Plano and McKinney, TX and stars Monica Day as Shelby and Devyn Smith as Hannah, her best friend. The film is intended to educate teenagers and young adults about the dangers of binge drinking and how to recognize and respond to the signs of alcohol poisoning. It also addresses the possible legal consequences for failing to render aid, as well as penalties for parents who knowingly provide alcohol to minors. In 2012, Miss Texas DaNae Couch became a spokesperson for the film and discussing it during her talks to young people across the nation.
